The way it was!!!

Our lovely neighbour came up to visit on Sunday and brought up some photos of our barn that the previous owner took before any renovations started!!!

Wanna see????

It takes your breathe away how derelict it was!!!!

Makes a heck of a difference to when we bought it as a shell….

And to now….

A finished home!!

Crafty happenings

Busy times again here as always it seems but now the workshop is nigh on finished and now functional!!!!!

So I decided to crack on with a few jobs I’ve been planning for a while…..

Firstly, I made something to occupy the small human whilst we are in the work shop and to stop him porcupining all the available holes in workbenches etc with screws!!!

A work bench!!

Then I decided it would be a good idea our home had a name sign!!!

So I cleaned up a lovely chunk of hard wood, which incidentally used to be part of the old barn roof itself….

I marked out the lettering with a pencil and a stencil I printed off from the computer and cut out using a craft knife…. Then using my pyrography tool I burnt the name into the wood…. Currently I’m on the second coat of varnish of about seven!!!

So whilst I’m varnishing I’ve started another project for the boys!!! (As will be come March, bump two is a little boy!!) I am turning a dolls house Dad made and I roofed and painted…..

I used in my classroom for a few years as both a teaching resource and as a choice time activity/play resource…..

Now it starts its journey to being a barn for the boys to keep their toy tractors and farm animals in!!

Lots of craftiness, though not of my usual ilk!!!

Work around the Holding

So since we are here now every day…..

We have started doing some bits around the place other than he workshop and the house!

010

Planting some bulbs for some spring colour about the place….. Crocuses, tulips and Daffodils….011012

Mowing the grass …. so we can get at the bed we planted and weed the heck out of it….once this latest bout of storm and rain is finished….013

Oh my poor rockery and bog garden…… this soooo needs attention…..014015016017

But there are now 50 crocus bulbs in the front garden hopefully settling in and getting ready to pop up come spring….018

James has built some composters in the far end of the slurry pit as was…..019

Our bales stacked up in the yard…. plus the mess of the far end of the slurry pit as a before photo…020

I mowed all the grass and weeds…..021022023

Sir played on the gator again!! (we are so going to have to hide those keys!!)024025

James de-baler twined the roto-tiller…..026

We carted some muck from the barn and planted a box and forsythia hedge from some cuttings we took and rooted before we left the old house…..027028029030

and finally I am not sure you can see the rocks but we have marked out for a fruit cage…. which we ordered at the start of the week and it arrived VERY quickly from First Tunnels.

Now to mulch the area marked, build the fruit cage, anchor it FIRMLY in place, order and plant the fruit!!!!

I have plans for gooseberries, blueberries, raspberries, currants, strawberries etc etc!!! the rhubarb will find itself in a shady spot in the muck the other side of the wall!!

Workshop Building

Recently we have been working hard on getting the area in the first barn behind the house turned into a workshop for all the tools and for doing some of the jobs we need to get done around the place….. including me making a heap of toys for Sir and for future Forest School plans (follow me over on Pinterest to see my collection of ideas I have for these things!!)

Sooo….. we started with…..

Well in reality there was a horse box and a tonne of junk and wood in there to really start with!!

Then building work started….

Then some more……

and some electricals….

and a roof…..

a lot of tanking slurry…..

and a bit of patio to sort the awful back door entrance out….

some welding and gate building….

The last two days I have been painting it with some cheap white paint so it doesn’t look so much of a cave….

Today Himself is cementing the floor in places to level it for racking….

So nearly ready for its final reveal!!!

Apologies for the radio silence…..

We have been crazy busy round here…. At school we are getting an inspection… I’ve been boxing up loads of things at our house and we’ve hired a van and moved it to the farm… Little bear has started to walk…. Yay but oh help!!!

I promise there is a podcast soon!!!!

But here are some photos in the meantime!!

Farm renovation updates!!!

We have bedroom curtains!!! I made them!!!! With a lot of cutting out help from my lovely neighbour, without whom they would not be so well pattern matched!!! They need hemming but I’ve put them up to drop first!! Love them!!!!

I have cut out the fabric for the hall curtains!!! Pattern matched now I know how/that I need to/what that means!! Lol excuse the wobbly photo rushing again!!! But my hallway is the perfect width to cut out from a bolt of fabric!!!

Downstairs big changes!!!! It’s practically decorated and we have a home emerging from the building site!!!

It’s all coming together!!!

Soon we will be onto fixtures fittings and finishing off the bathrooms upstairs and more doors and handles!!!!

It’s slowly becoming a home!!!

Last weekend Mum and Dad hired a van loaded up the bed frame Dad made from the old barn beams, a chair mum had recovered and some other bits and headed down to Wales!!!! We then loaded an absolute heap of furnishings at our current home, before heading on down to West Wales!!! The weekend was spent sorting, building unpacking loading cleaning and generally starting to build a home!!!

Saturday morning was a very frosty start!!

But Dad and James worked hard Friday night and got our new bed built!!! Dad has performed an amazing feat planing sanding polishing etc and making a wonderful bed frame from the old roofing beams from the barn!

Cheeky chops for scale!!!

We have clothes storage!!!

William enjoyed playing on the carpet and started off on the blue cushion!!!

Grandma and I got his mural done!!!! I love it but I’m fairly sure that I’ll find the wall stickers on the floor when we are next there so I’m going armed with extra sticky stuff!!

The chair mum rescued and had reupholstered!!!! It’s amazing the transformation and soooo comfy!!

Williams room is taking shape with the sofa bed now a sofa again and a desk and drawers in there

Paint splats on the tiles were carefully removed before furniture put in the kitchen!!!! Te he!!!! Bottoms up!!!

We officially have a spare room!!! One chair bed and a double with some old tables as temporary sidetables!!

We are so fancy now even our bathrooms have doors!!!!

And our kitchen is finally becoming a kitchen!!!

With a kitchen door and all!! Still lots to do and clear up but…. It’s starting to resemble a home. We have come such a long way from the shell we started with!!!

We. Have. Carpets!!!!!!!!!!

I spent some time at the holding mid week with baby bear in order for the carpet fitters to come to fit all our upstairs carpets!!!!!!
