Description
Big Woolly Balls – Aberfield & Cheviot
These gloriously oversized balls of yarn are handspun from a robust blend of pure Aberfield and Brecknockshire Cheviot wool, gathered and spun with the same care and attention that defines all of our smallholding yarns. Each ball weighs approximately 300–400g, creating a generous supply of beautifully textured yarn ready for bold, satisfying projects.
The character of this wool shines through in every twist of the spin. Cheviot brings strength, bounce, and durability, while Aberfield adds softness and loft, resulting in a yarn that is sturdy enough for practical makes yet still wonderfully tactile in the hand. The finished yarn has a lively, rustic texture that reflects the landscape and sheep it comes from.
Spun into giant woolly balls, this yarn is made for makers who enjoy working with substance. It’s perfect for chunky knitting, peg loom weaving, arm knitting, rug making, or any project where you want a bold, sculptural texture and the simple joy of working with big, generous yarn.
Because each ball is handspun, no two are ever quite the same. Subtle variations in thickness and texture are part of the charm, giving your finished piece a truly organic, handmade feel. It’s the kind of yarn that invites you to slow down, feel the fibres between your fingers, and enjoy the rhythm of making.
With 300–400g in a single ball, there are fewer joins and more uninterrupted crafting time—ideal for blankets, seat pads, chunky scarves, rustic baskets, woven mats, and statement homewares.
As always, the wool comes from small flocks and is processed close to the farm, keeping the journey of the fibre short and the connection to its origins strong.
Big balls. Beautiful wool. Endless creative possibilities.
